Marvel’s Ghost Rider TV Show Crash And Burns, Cancelled By Hulu

Just five months after it was announced that Marvel’s Ghost Rider will be releasing on Hulu, it was revealed that the show is no longer in development due to the show’s team and Hulu arriving at a “creative impasse”.

Gabriel Luna first portrayed anti-hero Robbie Reyes aka Ghost Rider in the fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. where Robbie Reyes teamed up with the titular agency to take down Eli Morrow (Jose Zuniga) and was set to reprise the role in Marvel’s Ghost Rider, granted as a “completely new iteration” of the character.

On his part, Luna has been sharing his excitement on social media. He even shared a post about the show as recently as four days ago. That’s rough, man.

The series was supposed to be executive produced by Ingrid Escajeda (Justified), while Paul Zbyszewski (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb will serve as showrunners.

Despite Ghost Rider’s cancellation, Marvel’s other live-action drama Helstrom will still be moving forward. That series will also be fronted by Zbyszewski and Loeb. Both Helstrom and Ghost Rider were going to exist within the same universe, with Hulu trying to build an interconnected live-action Marvel universe similar to the Marvel dramas on Netflix.

Helstrom will be joining the likes of Runaways starring Rhenzy Feliz and Lyrica Okano, as well as Hulu’s interconnected slate of animated Marvel shows which includes MODOK, Hit-Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler, Howard the Duck, and The Offenders (A not so subtle dig at Netflix’s The Defenders we’re sure).

Ghost Rider revolves around Robbie Reyes, who was consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Whenever Reyes unleashes the Rider, he brings about vengeance for the innocents he meets.

Ghost Rider is the latest project to be cancelled by Hulu, joining The Grisham Universe, based on the novels by John Grisham.
